This past summer, the Boy Scouts of America held the 2017 National Jamboree at the Summit Bechtel Reserve in West Virginia. Multiple Scouts from Lowwapaneu lodge had the opportunity to attend this once in a lifetime event. Over 30,000 scouts from across not just the USA but the world attended. This event would not have run so smoothly if it were not for the Order of the Arrow.
The OA sent a large delegation of Arrowmen to help staff the Scout Jamboree. They called the Delegation “Operation Arrow”. They held many vital jobs such as crowd control, trail guides, and lead in many Native American Activities. Our very own Section Chief Jeremy Bedient and Section Vice Chief Ben Oswald had the distinct privilege of serving on the Operation Arrow Staff. All of the participants could not thank the Operation Arrow staff enough. If you ever have the opportunity to serve as part of the Order of the Arrows Service Corp, I highly recommend it.

I had a great time a The National Jamboree this summer and got a chance to pursue a lot of new activities. Some of my favorite parts were learning how to skateboard, seeing the President, and meeting people from all over the country. I also got to meet the national chief of the Order of the Arrow. To give back to the community we made a hiking trail for the national park service. Overall it was a fantastic chance to try new things and meet new people. I’m really grateful to have had the opportunity to attend, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone who was considering going. Not only is it chance to have fun, but it’s a chance to give back and represent our Order as well.
